Application for a Sponsorship

Scholarship Competition in Slovakia
For the Class of 2022/23

Overview: tuition and non-tuition expenses

ASSIST seeks to enroll the most talented and ambitious students from more than twenty countries. The most significant cost of joining the program is the tuition charged at American independent schools, but through our partnerships with member schools, they grant generous scholarships to make the program accessible to our families. ASSIST Scholars from Slovakia do not pay any tuition fees.

Beyond the tuition fee, which is fully covered by the scholarship, there are other costs involved in joining the program:

Non-tuition costs

•Program fee ($6,700)
•International airfare
•Visa Fees
•Health insurance (approx. $1,450 - $3,000)
•Personal expenses (ex: spending money, school expenses, fees; estimated $1,800 depending on school placement)

Sponsorship programs

We do not want the cost of becoming an ASSIST Scholar to deter any candidate from applying. Therefore, we have established a sponsorship program that helps many qualifying families to cover a significant part of their son’s or daughter’s non-tuition costs. ASSIST staff and volunteers undertake fundraising campaigns to secure the funds needed to cover these sponsorships.

Most families are expected to cover the cost of the program fee through its own resources. However, for families who qualify, a sponsorship may be available to cover the following remaining costs:

Remaining costs

•International airfare
•Health insurance
•Personal expenses (ex: spending money, school expenses, fees)

Families who believe they cannot pay for the remaining costs of their children are encouraged to apply for a sponsorship (see below) by completing the “Family Financial Declaration” document, also available on this web site. Please complete this form below.

How we choose our Scholars

We are a merit scholarship program, meaning we select the students whom we believe can contribute the most and grow the most – regardless of their parents’ ability to fund all of the non-tuition costs (program fee and remaining costs). Applying for a sponsorship does not affect a candidate’s standing in the scholarship competition: it will neither help nor harm the student’s chances of qualifying for an ASSIST scholarship. At the same time, the number of scholarships offered by ASSIST member schools may exceed the capacity of the ASSIST staff and volunteers to match them with sufficient sponsorships to cover airfare, health insurance and personal expenses, and therefore requests for sponsorship support usually exceed the number of sponsorships available.
